Projects and Community Work
During my time as a Museum Studies student, I have taken on many research and community projects, both inside and outside of the classroom. I believe that community collaboration can enhance museum work and provide great experience for students and museum professionals.
Research: Relocating a Museum Collection
Inspired by the real collections relocation at Rhythm! Discovery Center, I researched and presented a project on the best practices for moving an entire collection
Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) Research
Alongside a collections manager at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis, I researched items in the collections to determine provenance and provide information for NAGPRA practices
Eagle Creek Ornithology Volunteering
Alongside my classmates, I volunteered to assist with cleaning Eagle Creek's collection of taxidermy birds using collections care best practices.
Museum of Broken Relationships Display
My fellow group members and I proposed a satellite display to advertise the Museum of Broken Relationships exhibit at Heron Galleries, including curating the objects and designing the display type.
Research: Flooding in Museums
In response to a real-life flooding event I experienced at the Rhythm! Discovery Center, I researched and presented a project on flooding response and collections salvage, informed by the process I experienced firsthand.
Indiana Medical History Museum Volunteering
My classmates and I volunteered at the Indiana Medical History Museum to assist with cleaning various aspects of the collection, including old medical books and papers as well as medical tools.
Collections Relocation
At the Rhythm! Discovery Center, I was orchestral in facilitating a complete collections relocation. I was primarily responsible for maintaining intellectual control of the collections, as well as packing and storing the items for moving.
